環境科学科田中教授ら日本に分布するバッカクキン（麦角菌）の全体像を明らかに

　環境科学科の田中栄爾教授を中心とした国際研究グループは、日本国内には少なくとも21種のバッカクキン（麦角菌：Claviceps spp.）が分布することを明らかにし、6つの新種、2つの変種から種への格上げ、8つの再発見種について記載しました。バッカクキンは主にイネ科植物の花に麦角と呼ばれる角状の菌糸の塊（菌核）を形成します。この菌核は重篤な障害を人畜に引き起こす麦角アルカロイド等の化学成分を含むことで知られています。本研究では日本各地から8年間にわたって300以上のサンプルを採集し、複数遺伝子座に基づく分子系統解析や分類学的考察が行われました。その結果、日本国内には東アジアで独自の進化をしてきたと考えられる16種と、牧草や穀物とともに世界に広がっている5種のバッカクキンが分布していることが明らかにされました。本研究によって確立された日本産バッカクキンの菌株は生物資源として様々な研究や産業に活用されることが期待されます。
